Couple of years ago, some Russian TV and radio stations, and some news houses, decided to pick the seven wonders of Russia. The results were astounding.
Russia is known as a country in which you can find everything. Known for the great destinations that the tourists cant resist.
Driven by this thought, the effort of these people, with a help of every person in Russia, who could have participated in the voting though internet and SMS, in the end here are the results of the Seven Wonders of Russia.
1. Lake Baikal
Lake Baikal is located in the eastern part of Sberia and it is considered as the deepest lake in the world. It is also the biggest reservoir of drinking water in the world. The lake is 1500 meters deep, and the water is crystal clear with astonishing blue color.
2. Valley of Geysers
The Valley of Geysers is located in Kamchatka and it is so interesting for the big number of active and attractive geysers. This place is also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
3. Mamayev Kurgan Memorial Complex
The Mamayev Kurgan is a memorial complex built in the 1950s in Volgograd. The monuments were built in honor of the fallen warriors in the World War II. The main monument is a part of the Guinness World Records for the biggest monument. It is almost twice as big as the Statue of Liberty in New York.
4. Peterhof Palace
This place was built in order of Peter I in the beginnings of 17th century. The Peterhof Palace is located near Saint Petersburg. Because of the abundance of foliage, water, gold and amazing architecture, Peterhof is considered to be one of the biggest tourist attractions that can be found in Russia.
5. Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed (Saint Basil’s Cathedral)
Located inside the Red Square in Moscow, Saint Basil’s Cathedral is recognized by its domes and the colorful facades and interiors. The cathedral was built in the period between 1555 and 1561, honoring the the victory of Ivan the Terrible against mongols and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan.
6. Manpupuner rock formations (Seven Strong Men Rock Formations or Poles of the Komi Republic)
Noone really knows when these seven stone pillars were created, but all the scientists agree in one thing – it is a wonder that only the Nature can create. It is thought that the stone pillars were created 200 million years ago, and they are 42 meters high.
7. Mount Elbrus
Mount Elbrus is the highest point in Russia and many also says that this is the highest point in Europe too. Mount Elbrus is a place filled with tourists and lovers of winter sports and hikers. Mount Elbrus rises to 5,600 meters above sea level.
